Installing the required software for the homebrew channel

You basically need Gecko OS and the Ocarina code manager. First of all get the newest Ocarina code manager. Gecko OS can also be acquired, however if you want to ensure to get the newest version, go to the USB Gecko page.

The Gecko OS download is an archive file with a GeckoOS107b folder in it. Extract this entire folder into your homebrew channel folder on SD card (structure should be [sd]:\apps\GeckoOS____\). The code manager for PC can simply be unpacked and launched - just a note for uninstall people: no modifications to your system are done, just delete it and it's gone! To get on selecting codes, just open codemgr.exe .
But now let's get to cheating!!

How to cheat

Open the Ocarina Code Manager.. and it will show you its small interface. Select "File" and "Open TXT file" to open a cheat file. You download the newest code lists at the USB Gecko code page - choose your game, and click "DOWNLOAD" in the upper left. You'll get a regular text file you can just store on your PC. The Ocarina code Manager can open it. Once you do, the code list appears. In the left code list you can enable specific codes just by ticking them. When you click them the code contents appear on the upper right list. In the following example I use the European version of Smash Bros Brawl.

As you will see on multiple codes - there are XXXXXXXX parts (or maybe just XX - depends on the code). Final codes may only contain hexadecimal values (0-9 and A-F) so you've gotta replace these X. In most cases you'll find the necessary information in the lower right part - the comment box. In my case: I want Zelda double sized. I open the Size modifier - and I'll see the XXXXXXXX parts - the comments say: 2.0 - 40000000 (double size). So replace the XXXXXXXX with 40000000. Now I also want to force Zelda. I select the char modifier (P1) - the program warns me to store my data. Don't worry, the TXT code list won't be adjusted, it stores data internally to remember what you changed. The character modifier again contains XX parts.. according to comments Zelda is 0E. By the way.. you can resize the comment box if needed! Both codes are ticked.. now the codes have to be stored to an SD card. I click "Export to GCT" now. It asks me again to store changes (this time the Zelda changes), I accept: if you still have XX in your codes the manager would warn you now! A dialog comes up which allows me to either select storing to a file manually or auto-saving to SD card: I select my SD card drive letter and I click on store.

Now you can remove the SD card from your PC. Insert it into your Wii.. and start Ocarina with your homebrew channel. Insert Brawl and just press A and the game gets started. In my case.. whoever I select. Player 1 is overwritten with Zelda. And.. did she grow?

Nah, she didn't ^^

The code list for Smash Bros also contains other interesting codes. The unrestricted camera code is the best choice so far to get epic screenshots. Use it.. turn your camera whereever you want. And store a screenshot. Unlike Ocarina, with Gecko OS although cheat codes are coming from SD card, you CAN use your SD cards in-game!

Nosebleed anyone? ^^

Additional code lists will be released soon.. come to the WiiRd community - Wii cheat codes will be discussed there and in the next time!

FAQ and dangers

What can I do besides using cheat codes?
Playing imports, copy restricted savegames! Making your own codes or enable/disable codes in real-time require you to get a USB Gecko!

Gecko OS is full of options.. what are they for?
You probably have noticed all the options included in Gecko OS. Most of the time you just want to launch your game. However, let's just quick discuss the regular options:
